Voices of the Vulnerable
This is my entry for the 2010 UN Global Pulse Visualization Challenge. The idea is to show how people are responding to the global economic crisis using data from a large-scale mobile phone survey in five countries. I combine survey results with World Bank GDP per capita data. Because some of the UN questions were open-ended, I decided to try word clouds to show the relative frequency of particular answers. What you can hopefully see from my infographic is that people in Uganda, though a very poor country, have high hopes for the future, whereas people in a relatively richer country, like Mexico, have a bleaker assessment of the future.
