Olympic + All That
The lettering size of the country proportionately reflects the number of medals won in that year. 1996 was an important year for the U.S because we hosted the Olympics. The year 2012 is important because of the correspondence with the economic challenges and an upcoming presidential election. The time line indicates the Olympics as a land mark event and a platform for comparing the number of medals each nation has won in comparison to their economic situation, at the time.
