How are doctors paid? Overview of physician payment across OECD

How are doctors paid? It turns out they are paid a variety ways in different countries. Physicians can be paid fee-for-service (a fee for each individual service provided), capitation (a fee for each assigned patient), salary, or through a mix of payment models. We have mapped out how primary care doctors are paid across OECD countries as a first step toward developing a data visualization tool that will allow us to see how doctor payment is linked to health outcomes, like mortality rates, and health system outcomes, like costs and access to care. We hope this data tool will be of interest to researchers, policy-makers and the general public.
