The news has been abuzz with updates and debates surrounding Obamacare. However, many of these discussions seem oddly familiar to many of our older citizens. Surprisingly, Social Security and Medicare both faced strict opposition in their fledgling days. In Social Security’s beginning days, they encountered huge problems. However, nowadays, nearly 1 in 5 Americans collect Social Security income. Medicare may have faced some incredible challenges, such as low enrollment and racial concerns, however, this year, there will be an estimated 35 million Americans using the program. The Affordable Care Act seems to have weathered many bumps in the road, however, time will tell how it’s accepted in the future.
