Beauty VS Happiness

In a beauty obsessed world we are spending increasing amounts of money on make-up, hair, and some more extreme cases – cosmetic surgery. Across the globe, different markets are different in their attitudes towards their external appearances, with some spending more money than others, and some focussing on simple acts of beauty such a perfumes and make up, whilst others move to surgery in order to maintain their own perception of beauty.
But does all this focus on appearances actually equate to happiness? Furthermore, if beauty is so important, why is this? What can it do for individuals and how can this improve our lives? With such money, time and effort going into our appearances, we would expect that this would result in an increased quality of life and happiness.
Here, we take a look to see the true meaning of beauty: what it is costing us and what it could bring us in return.
