Find Me On
I have worked for NASA's Chandra X-ray Observatory for the past 12 years. I spent 8 years as a calibration scientist and operations specialist and switched to Education and Public Outreach in 2009 in the position of Visualization Scientist. My main focus in this position is the creation of press quality imagery from raw data, often combining data from several observatories (and separate wavelengths of light) into a single image. I also produce some of the supplementary materials provided with a press release (video podcasts, factual information). Over the last few years, I've been involved in the development of a metadata standard for astronomical imagery, called AVM (Astronomy Visualization Metadata). Leveraging the power of AVM, I recently designed and deployed an interactive web application allowing the user to explore 14 years worth of Chandra press releases mapped onto the sky.
