At yesterday's News World Summit in Paris, the Data Journalism Awards (DJA) announced its six winners and three honorable mentions. The DJA is the first international competition to recognize outstanding work in the growing field of data journalism. A jury of 10 leading data journalism experts awarded 7.500 EUR to the following recipients:
1. Data-driven Investigations
- National/International Winner: Terrorists for the FBI, Mother Jones and UC Berkeley Investigative Reporting, USA
- Local/Regional Winner: Methadone and the Politics of Pain, The Seattle Times, USA
2. Data Visualization and Storytelling
- National/International Winner: Riot Rumours, The Guardian, UK
- Local/Regional Winner: Pedestrian Crashes in Novosibirsk, Nikolay Guryanov, Stas Seletskiy and Alexey Papulovskiy, Russia
3. Data-driven Applications
- National/International Winner: Transparent Politics, Polinetz AG, Switzerland
- Local/Regional Winner: Illinois School Report Cards, Chicago Tribune, USA
