Call for Submissions: Ars Electronica Festival

As our world becomes increasingly complex and interconnected, new perspectives are ever more important. Movement, communication, and exchange now happen on a scale never previously imagined. Data visualization can offer a “big picture” perspective on the patterns, flows, and forces that underpin modern life, prompting new ideas and insights.

Fittingly, the theme of Ars Electronica this year is THE BIG PICTURE - New Concepts for a New World. Today, we are very excited to announce a call to the Visualizing community to submit works for inclusion in a Visualizing Gallery, presented as part of Seed's partnership with Ars Electronica. We are looking for visualizations that shed insight on THE BIG PICTURE — however you may interpret the concept.

Details

All submissions will be considered for inclusion in the Visualizing Gallery. The selected works will be displayed on large 50" HD monitors in the Brucknerhaus at Ars Electronica 2012 from August 30 - September 3, 2012.

Submitting

Anyone is eligible to submit work for consideration. Each submission must include a short abstract that explains how the data visualization contributes to our understanding of THE BIG PICTURE. Abstracts should be no more than 100 words included under the Captions section on our upload form. Creators will be notified by August 6 if their submission will be featured and will work with Visualizing to finalize details.

Projects must be uploaded on Visualizing. You can submit as many projects as you wish. Interactive pieces are encouraged as there will be a desktop-like interface available to viewers. New to Visualizing? Just create a (free) user account and upload your work.

Deadline

Submit your work by 11:59 PM EDT on July 31, 2012 for consideration.
